How can we help you?

Bring your own (BYO) router

You can use your own router, or make life easy and buy one from us. Here’s what you need to know.

Before you choose to BYO

  • You must configure it yourself
If you choose to bring your own router, you must be able to set up and configure the router yourself. You must be able to log in and change settings, specifically Static IP configuration. Most routers provide settings access through a built-in web interface.
  • We don't set up or troubleshoot customer devices
We do not provide technical support or troubleshooting for customer-supplied equipment, including Wi-Fi issues, connectivity problems beyond the fibre ONT, or devices like computers, printers, TVs, and tablets.
  • Service fees may apply
If we do provide help with your own equipment, a service fee will be charged.
  • Limited technical advice
Due to the wide variety of routers available, we're unable to provide device-specific technical advice, or recommend other models.
  • You need a fibre-ready router
Your router must be fibre-ready. Ensure your router supports the speeds required for your selected plan, both wired and wireless.

For a hassle-free setup, we recommend buying a router directly from us, pre-configured and ready to plug in.

What you'll need to configure

We don’t use PPPoE for our fibre connections. Instead, each connection is assigned a static IP on our network. We provide the following once a connection is activated:

  • IP Address: Your dedicated IP address
  • Gateway Address: The gateway address

And these standard settings:

  • Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
  • Primary DNS (DNS1): 1.1.1.1
  • Secondary DNS (DNS2): 8.8.8.8

Use an ethernet cable to connect your router to LAN1 on the Chorus ONT (or GE1 for older models).

Make sure VLAN is disabled on your router, our network does not require VLAN tagging for fibre connections.

Please refer to your router’s manual or manufacturer’s website for support specific to your router.
